Welcome to The Official Jabbin for Jesus Boxing Page

Dear Friends in Boxing,

On November 1, 1998 a program called YCAP was birthed here in Chattanooga, TN. YCAP (Youth Community Action Project) under the direction of the Chattanooga Metropolitan YMCA, was founded by Joe Smith.

YCAP is an intensive early intervention and prevention program for at risk adolescents. After it's founding in Chattanooga in 1998 YCAP expanded to Cleveland, TN in 2002. Since it's very beginning, YCAP has offered a wide range of services based in each child's individual needs. Those services include tutoring, mentoring, individual and group counseling, adventure based activities, values education, spiritual counseling, team sports (football, baseball, basketball), in home family intervention and and conflict resolution, family assistance with food, clothing, job search and referrals. Over the last three years,  YCAP has added a community garden that provides healthy fresh vegetables to families in need, and most recently opened a shelter for homeless young men. The long range vision plan for YCAP is to expand to Rhea County (Dayton, TN) by the fall of 2013.

In 1999 the sport of amateur boxing was added to YCAP's menu of services. The boxing component of the YCAP program got its start at the Westside Recreation Center located in the College Hill Courts Housing Development of downtown Chattanooga. Over the years, there have been a total of 31 National Champions, all but one of them have gone on to complete high school and many today are enrolled in some type of higher education.

Since the boxing piece of the YCAP program began in 1999, even though many children have simultaneously participated in both, Boxing and YCAP have ran independently of each other due to insurance constaraints and other issues.

We are pleased to announce that as of January 1, 2013, amateur boxing is now an official component of the YMCA YCAP Program. This comes as very exciting news here on the local level in Chattanooga. This could also very well open doors for boxing clubs all over the Southeastern Association and the United States to approach your local YMCA's to partner and offer the sport of boxing in your various communities.

Moving forward, the Chattanooga Westside Boxing Club now is called the YCAP Boxing Club and is a registered Club of USA Boxing, which is the National Governing Body for amateur boxing in the United States.
